Opening Spetember 20th - Return of the Dinosaurs
Make way for “Return of the Dinosaurs,” Hands On! Museum’s newest feature exhibit. Turn back the clock millions of years to see dinosaurs walking, feeding, roaring, and caring for their young. Experience the lifelike motion, texture, and sound of these gigantic and fascinating creatures by Kokoro Dinosaurs. This exhibit will include:T.rex, Parasaurolophus, Stegosaurus, Pteranodon, Ankylosaurus with Young, Triceratops with Young, Hands-on T-rex visitors can move, Art Rubbing Stations, and Other Interactive Areas.

Special Events
August 27th, 10-11:30am - Under Pressure!
Come study the amazing power of air pressure as we launch things across the room! Make your very own straw launcher, try out our potato gun, and stand back as we create a 20 foot tall mentos soda geyser! Who knew that air was this cool! Cost is $5. Ages 6-9 years old. September 6 & 7 - Show your grandparents how much you care with a special card from their favorite little artist!
September 13 & 14 - Have you ever wanted to know how to draw your favorite cartoon character? Join us in the Art Studio as we design our very own cartoon character and learn to draw some of our favorites.
September 20 & 21 - Let your art work really shine as we create works of art using silver leaf techniques as used by the Artist of the Month, Fra Angelico.

Monday, September 1st - Labor Day - Museum Closed
The museum will be closed every Monday during the fall and winter months, until after Memorial Day 2009.
Friday, September 5, 6:00 - First Friday Free Family Movie Night
Get ready for our newest traveling exhibit “Return of the Dinosaurs” with a classic dinosaur double feature:
At 6:00, follow Littlefoot and his dinosaur friends as they find their way across miles of dangerous lands and lava spewing mountains to get to the Great Valley. (Animated- Rated G)
At 7:30, enter the world’s most unusual theme park, an island where dinosaurs come to life. A plot to steal these genetically engineered creatures brings dinosaurs and man too close for comfort. (live action- Rated PG-13)
The FREE family movie is presented by Hands On! Museum in partnership with the Johnson City Public Library and is sponsored by Massengill-DeFriece Foundation. For a family review of these films please call 423-434-HAND.
Sunday, September 7, 1:00 - 4:00 pm - Free Day
All visitors receive FREE Admission from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Bring grandma and grandpa in honor of Grandparents Day. Grandparents can register to win a FREE grandparent membership to the museum.
Thursday, September 11th at 10:00 am & 1:00 pm - Billy Jonas Performance
Award winning singer, songwriter, and percussionist Billy Jonas will bring his unique talents to the museum in a fun interactive show. Be a part of the orchestra as we do some “Bangin’ and Sangin’.” Visit Billy’s website, billyjonas.com for a sneak peek. This event is FREE to museum members and $2 for non-members. School students registering as a class are FREE as well, so tell your child’s school or teacher. Pre-register by calling 423-434-HAND or e-mail main@handsonmuseum.org. Presented by: Johnson City Rotary Club and Fidelity Investments. **Please note: on this day, the block of Market Street behind Hands On! will be closed. September 17th, 2-4pm - Amazing Automata
Explore simple machines as we use cams, wheels, and axels to create a one of a kind moving sculpture. Learn the basics and then put them into action as you decide how your sculpture will move and sound. Use your imagination and put your ideas into action. You’ll be amazed with the results! Give us your best “AARGGGG!” Have fun on Talk Like a Pirate Day with Pirate Science in the Discovery Lab. Learn how pirates used the property of density on their journeys and hear our best pirate jokes!
September 25th, 9:30-11:30am - Dinomania!
Perfect for the little paleontologist in your family, this workshop will explore all things dino. Dig for a fossil, hear from a special guest speaker, and receive a private tour of our latest feature exhibit “Return of the Dinosaurs.” Cost is $3. Ages 4-7 years old. Pre-registration is required. Saturday, September 27 - Life & Legends of the Cherokee
The Cherokee are the Native Americans who live in our region. Learn about the “Life and Legends of the Cherokee” through an interactive story about why the opossum’s tail is bare. From 12:30-3:30, get an up close encounter with Daisy the opossum from Bays Mountain Park.
Saturday & Sunday, September 27 & 28 - Science Strength
Do you need muscles to crush a soda can? Not if you have science! Come learn about the states of matter and the crushing power of molecules in the Eastman Discovery Lab.
