Programs at Hands On! Regional Museum:

Monday, January 8th, 4:00-6:00pm – Sensory Night

The event is designed for children with sensory integration needs and their immediate family. Lighting and sound are adjusted as well as many other environmental elements.  The Museum will be closed to the public during this event and registration is required. Sensory Nights are free. Early registration is recommended because spaces are limited. To register, please call (423) 434-4263 x. 800.

Wednesday, January 17th – Kid Inventors Day

Our feature exhibit, Make It. Take It. will be open today especially for Kid Inventors Day.  Join us to tinker, make, craft, build, design, learn, and DIY with our array of materials.  We provide the materials and tools, you provide the inspiration, creativity, and fun!  We will have extra “challenges” throughout the day to test your ingenuity and skill!

Sunday, February 4th – Boy Scout Day Sunday

Boy Scouts in uniform receive half price admission for the day.  Valid only for scouts in full uniform, cannot be transferred to another individual or day or combined with any other discount.

Monday, February 5th, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm – Homeschool Day at Hands On!

Join us for this special day open from 10am-2pm just for our loyal home school visitors.  Come together to network, explore, play, and experience STEAM concepts.  Eastman Discovery Lab and Art Studio programs will be announced throughout the event.  In addition, our feature exhibit, Make It. Take It. will be open for this event.  Pre-registration is required to receive the discounted Home School Day rate, otherwise general admission tickets are $9 at the door.  To make your advanced reservation and receive a discount or to reserve your dissection specimen**, please email reservations@handsonmuseum.org no later than Thursday, February 1st.

General Homeschool Day Admission:

  • Members:  $4 with advanced registration/$9 at door
  • Non-members: $6 with advanced registration/$9 at door
  • Children under the age of 3 are FREE
  • Additional activities include:
    Tesla Experience Show (tickets available at door) Members $1/Non-members $2 (per person ages 3+)
    **Dogfish Shark Dissection – 11:00 am** Members $12/Non-members $15 (per person ages 3+)

Sunday, February 11th – National Inventors Day

Join us on National Inventors Day for some reverse engineering and test your skills on lots of items adults would never let you take apart.  Dismantle computer towers, phones, keyboards, and more!  Reverse Engineering will be setup on our TVA Discovery Carts throughout the day.  (*Contains small parts)

Sunday, March 11th – Girl Scout Sunday

Girl Scouts in uniform receive half price admission for the day.  Valid only for scouts in full uniform, cannot be transferred to another individual or day or combined with any other discount.

Wednesday, March 14th – Pi Day

Join us for all things Pi and pie!  Programs and activities by announcement throughout day.  Free with regular admission while supplies last.

Friday, March 30th, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm – Dino Egg Hunt

Head downtown and over to Hands On! for some EGG-cellent prehistoric family fun!  Stop by the Dino Egg Hunt anytime between 9:30 and 12:30 for experiments, crafts, games, a prehistoric putting course, and more!  Don’t forget to stop by the prehistoric forest to hunt for Mama T-Rex’s dinosaur eggs and return them to her in exchange for a goody bag.  Stay tuned to our website and social media for more details!

Programs at Gray Fossil Site & Museum:

Saturday, January 6th, 9:30 am-noon – Old Rock Day Workshop

We are going to “rock” your world with some fun in honor of Old Rock Day!  Discover exactly what the difference is between Geology and Paleontology.  Explore the differences between rocks and minerals, and then try out a rock and mineral hardness test while learning about Mohs Hardness Scale.  Finally, make your very own pet rock!  A healthy snack is included.  Advanced Registration by Wednesday, January 3rd:  $10 for members, $13 for non-members.  Registration at the door:  $13 for members, $16 for non-members.  Ages 5-13. Tuesday, February 27, 4:00-6:00pm – Fossil & Artifact ID Night

You don’t have to be a paleontologist to find fossils. Identifying them is a different story.  Bring any kind of rock, fossil, artifact, or mineral to Fossil & Artifact ID Night, and scientists at the museum will provide space for the study of these finds. There will be an archaeologist, paleontologist, and geologist on site. The event is free and open to the public but does not include admission to exhibits.
